One of the best ways to
improve the appearance of acne scars is through your
diet. Eliminating yeast-free and milk-free foods is a
good way to start improving the condition of your skin.
Also, try to eat organic grains, cereals and rice as part
of each meal and limit your fat intake to only good fats
(a.k.a. fish oils, olive oil and flax seeds
oil).
Foods and herbs that are rich
in antioxidants are another example of home remedies for
acne scars. Don’t forget to include anything with
immune boosting properties. These include things such as
tomatoes, broccoli, green tea, grape seed extract,
Echinacea, elderberry and foodstuffs with vitamin C and
E. Zinc is another great addition to the diet and all of
these home remedies for acne scars will help reduce
appearance of acne scars.

Remedies for Acne Scars that Work from the
Outside
There are numerous home
remedies for acne scars. These remedies use essential
oils and other ointments that can be applied topically to
acne scars. These are all natural treatments and if used
as the recipes state they shouldn’t cause any adverse
reactions. Two effective pastes that have been known to
reduce the redness and bumpiness of acne scars contain
the following ingredients:
· A cucumber and tomato juice
mixture – the tomatoes in this paste provide antioxidant
properties and they help to reduce further damage being
done to the cells of the acne scar. The cucumbers portion
helps to soothe and tighten the skin so that its overall
tone is improved. This mixture should only be left on for
20-30 minutes before washing off as the tomato juice can
cause mild skin irritation if it is left to
long.
· A black cohosh, sandalwood
and milk mixture – both black cohosh and sandalwood have
anti-inflammatory properties that help to reduce the
redness and irritation of new scar tissue. By reducing
the inflammation early on it is possible to limit the
severity of the scar as it forms.
Essential oils mixed with
base oils or beeswax treatments are great home remedies
for acne scars. These oils can be made into ointments or
creams to be applied to the affected areas daily. The
most commonly used essential oils include Helichrysum,
Lavender, Rosewood, Lemongrass and Chamomile, and they
can be mixed with lecithin oil, almond oil or Vitamin E
oil to make very effective ointments.
Mild acne
scars can often be treated using
home remedies. Remember that the results won’t become
apparent overnight. In fact it can take anywhere between three
and six months of using home remedies for acne scars to see a
significant improvement. Severe scars may need medical
attention and may not respond at all to the home remedies
outlined above. If you don’t see signs of improvement within a
few months then it might be worth making an appointment with
your dermatologist to discuss the next step.
