Chemical
Peels
There are various chemical solutions, which can be applied to
facial scar tissue. These have the effect of improving the
appearance of surface scarring and reducing any
over-pigmentation that may have developed. When considering how

scar improvement over time. The widely used peeling agents
include various active ingredients that have anti-inflammatory
properties. These include glycolic acids, trichloroaecetic acid
and salicylic acid.
Mild chemical peels are

Dermabrasion

middle layers of skin so that the scar tissue is much
less noticeable. The procedure is painful though and it
does require a local anaesthetic, and to be performed by
a qualified physician.
Collagen
Injections
Collagen injected into the
scar tissue can help plump up the area slightly so that
the dimpled areas of acne scars are less visible. The
body produces collagen naturally and so there is very
little chance of adverse reactions. Unfortunately, the
effects of the injections aren’t permanent and they have
to be repeated every 3-4 months.
Skin
Surgery
Severe or large acne scars
can sometimes benefit from skin surgery. This is only
performed when all other forms of acne scar treatment
have failed. The scar tissue is opened up and skin from
another area of the body is grafted into the scar area.
Skin surgery is often the last resort and shouldn’t be
taken lightly.
These are the
main medical methods of how to get rid of acne scars and
