Several cleansers on the
market are specific for removing blackheads. You should
use one that contains salicylic acid, as it is this
ingredient that helps to open up the pores in the skin
and dislodge the plug. You don’t need an antibacterial
product, because blackheads aren’t generally caused by
the build-up of bacteria.
Using a facial wash or
cleanser twice a day will keep pores free from the excess
oil and dead skin cells that cause the blackheads. As
added protection, you can use an exfoliating wash or
exfoliating pads on occasion - once a week is sufficient
in most cases. To get the maximum benefit from cleansers
it is suggested that you use a facial steam bath first to
really open up the pores. Remember to use a cooling toner
afterwards though so that the pores aren’t left open to
the elements.
How to Remove
Blackheads using Mechanical
Means
If you have the time and the
patience, you can learn how to remove blackheads
mechanically. There are several products on the market
that pull the blackhead out for you but you can easily do
this yourself, without the need for expensive
gadgets.
Before you start popping your
blackheads out you will need to get them soft and warm.
The softer a blackhead is the easier it is to remove so
using a facial steam bath is recommended. A chamomile
steam bath is both refreshing and beneficial to your skin
so this is a good one to try. Relax over the facial steam
bath for around five minutes before looking for
blackheads. This then gives the pores time to open up
ready to release their contents.
You can wash your face with a
blackhead facial wash at this point, if you want. This is
how to remove blackheads that are very soft. The ones
that need a bit of extra help will be left behind. One
important thing to remember when removing blackheads
mechanically never force the blackhead out or you might
end up creating a scar. Blackheads will only come out
when they are ready to and squeezing vigorously can
damage the surrounding skin and cause much bigger
problems.
How to remove blackheads push gently on the surrounding
skin and if the pore is open enough the head should pop out. If
it doesn’t, leave it and try again a few days later. Another
option is to use pore strips to remove blackheads. Make sure
they are for sensitive or all-skin types though as the glue on
some strips can react with already damaged skin e.g. from
acne.
